SCHOOL’S OUT
Forget lessons – life’s a playground!
This daily series follows the experiences of ten boys and girls aged 12-17 at their secondary school, the Spangalis College (Spanga). The ten ‘spangas’ have all kinds of adventures that unfold principally in and around the school, but also on the playground and sometimes at home. This includes the creative Fay, who cherishes her individuality and Barry who hates going to school. Also the rebellious twins Tobias and Flip, who have a problem with their older sister, Lana – not to mention that their father happens to be the deputy headmaster of the school.
The group discover love, form friendships, experience loneliness, sorrow, separation, belonging, bullying and share their dreams for the future. Like Turkish Irmak, who sometimes struggles with her double cultural identity, temperamental Surinamese Avalanche, who likes to take control and Moroccan Nassim, who wants to be a journalist.
In short, life itself. Spanga is a formidable school which, alongside normal lessons, encourages the students to take part in other non-academic activities. This includes holding fashion shows and sports days, organizing campaigns for good causes and gaining work experience in a local riding school.
