FLORIS presents a very modern version of the Middle Ages, a time of anarchy in which Michiel Huisman takes on the role of the new superhero. Huisman plays the grandson of the old hero, Rutger Hauer. Birgit Schuurman plays Pi, his beautiful oriental sidekick. Victor Low plays Floris' father. And Daan Schuurmans also has a part to play in this adventurous, amusing film. Linda van Dijk plays a marvellously canny Duchess of Gelre.
The film is directed by Jean van de Velde. His previous credits include The Little Blond Death (1993), All Stars (1997) and Leak (1999). The scenario for FLORIS was written by Gerard Soeteman, who also conceived and wrote the original version. Soeteman also wrote Paul Verhoeven's hits Turkish Delight, Soldier of Orange and Spetters. In the late 1960s, FLORIS was the Dutch national TV hero, and since November 2004, FLORIS rides again, on the big screen this time, and with a gleaming new suit of armour.
Successful producer/composer/songwriter John Ewbank wrote the music for the film. This is Ewbank's first Dutch cinematic feature. He is known predominately as singer Marco Borsato's regular composer/producer.
