Johan Nijenhuis (1968) started his career as producer of the television soap Good Times Bad Times (GTBT). He was responsible for launching stars such as Katja Schuurman, Georgina Verbaan and Angela Schijf. In 1995, GTBT was awarded the Dutch television audience award, the Golden Televizier ring. Over one million viewers per episode were glued to the tube, and the series scooped the Golden Televizier ring.
His cinematic debut kicked off with the release of feature film Costa!. As director and co-producer, Nijenhuis wrote the screenplay, in cooperation with Wijo Koek. The film, based on club scouts at the Spanish coast, broke all ticket sales records in its opening weekend. A total of 680,000 people viewed Costa! As a result, a television series was launced on pubcaster BNN. Nijenhuis’ second film, Full Moon Party, drew an audience of 500,000 people, making it the best-viewed Dutch feature film of 2002.
He joined forces with producer/director Alain de Levita and together they founded NL Film & TV in 2001. Ever since, Nijenhuis and De Levita have produced several drama series and features. |
